CAIRO - 16 May 2026: A shark appeared on a beach in the city of Quseir, south of the Red Sea, near shallow waters, causing panic, especially with a large number of people on the beach. No injuries were reported.
 
Residents of Quseir notified the Red Sea Reserves Authority and other relevant authorities to monitor the shark's appearance near the shore and determine the reasons for its presence in the shallow waters.
 
Suspected Mako
 
An environmental source revealed that the shark seen in the photos and videos is suspected to be a Mako, which is not considered highly dangerous. Its appearance in the shallow waters was likely due to reasons such as searching for food.

Reef Shark
 
Dr. Mahmoud Maati, Assistant Professor of Marine Biology at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Hurghada, stated that the shark spotted on the city's coast. The shark is suspected to be a blacktip reef shark.

He added that visual observation strongly suggests it belongs to the blacktip reef shark species, based on the distinctive shape of its clearly defined blacktip dorsal fin, as well as the presence of a dark rump fin and the streamlined body characteristic of this species.
